VALS NIGHT OF LUV AND LAUGHS
With the rise in Gh Comedy over the year and the massive patronage of Comedy shows, an indication that Ghanaians are warming up to our very own Comedians is seen.
Kumasi had it’s fair share of a night of Laughter and Music last Friday, 14th February 2020 which happened to be Valentine’s Day at the maiden edition of a show organized by the Comedy Hub in partnership with Queens Restaurant and Sports Bar dubbed “LUV N LAUGHS”
The event which enjoyed massive Social media and radio publicity over the past weeks finally started ot 8PM sharp on the Night.
The event was MCed by Nana Benyin Anumel (Programmes Manager, EIB Network, Kumasi)
The spectacular event was sponsored by OSONS Chemist, Special Ice Mineral Water,
Emavee Print House,
Andrica Records and Ra-G Fashions.
And was supported by Ultimate FM, PPHype Crew, and Oxford Fashions.
Starting up was a wonderful contemporary music performance with Jama instrumentals by Morale.Com (the “We don’t know Santa Claus” group).
After which Donkor took over with an amazing Acoustic session on songs like “Amakyedede’s Ka neɛ mayɛ,
Shatta Wale’s My level,
Chidinma’s Fallen in love and
Mariam Makeba by Patapata.
Starting with the laughter treat was Comedian HP, who got the audience clapping with his thigh-slapping performance on how ugly he is, the experience with military and a look at watching Porn in an American home versus a Ghanaian home amongst others.
Following up was Comedian Heavens who delivered spectacularly, thrilling the audience with punchlines after punchlines. The humorist delivered on how commentary on sex would be like,
Kantanka’s Uber amongst others.
Taking up after was Comedienne Felicia, a professional nurse whose got the perfect backside to confuse a host of men. She was interesting to listen to as on her part she talked about how cheating makes relationship lively, how some ladies behave on an outing with a guy and other.
Talking a Music break welcomed Yhaa Amponsah who put the audience in a lovey-dovey mood on Acoustic, performing mashup of Stonebwoys (Gbedegbede) plus Ataa Adwoa and then ended with his own song ( My Bambi)
Then came Dwomoh The Jwoker, an architect by day and a Comedian by Night, another Oseikrom Sensation who as usual massaged the ribs of patrons with bouts of Rib-cracking jokes. The laugh-provoker touched on Kumasi terms that only makes sense to Kumasi people,
KNUST biometric toilet, Some towns with weird names and others.
Dan Lartey, the old but gold Rib-cracker tickled the patrons with his exceptional comic talks with his command of the local twi dialect elaborating on the advantages of dating or marrying a plus and proud lady over a slim one
Comedienne Afia Barcelona, after a marvelous Karaoke performance which won her a massive applaud and a discovery of her musical prowess, started with an infectious energy with drew the admiration of every Tom, Dick and Harry at the Bar.
She was in her element as she gave out dosages of laughter together with series of punchlines on some of the excuses guys will give to their partners after Valentine, how most ladies will be disappointed on Vals day and others.
Opoku Bakope took over serving the patrons with some melodious tunes that got the Patrons singing along to a Mashup of songs like “I love you just the way you are” , “Amanfoɔ girls” , “Lucky” , “Nobody” and his own song “Woa”
Mr. Katah (the famed Akobam contestant on “What Don’t You Know” quiz show), one of the highlights of the show who responds to Sofo Abaadedeede from ladies and Fawadwen didi dot com from guys, was a wonder to watch and listen to.
He got the audience cracking up to mixed content on experience with Military, Advice on type of ladies to marry and others
Ato Pagh, another great Comic MC and one of the brains behind the show finished up with a masterpiece on how to know whether a lady will sleep over after a date night. In his demonstration of how the things in a lady’s bag indicates her readiness to spend the night with you, he asked for a bag from one of the lady patrons in which were a variety of items from Procept (a pregnancy prevention pill from Osons Chemist), a torn flip-flop, amongst others.
The event wouldn’t have met the mark without a splendid Rap delivery from Germain Portfolio (God of Event MC), an Acoustic piece from Ato Dadzie (Lawyer Amekudji of KejetiaVsMakola fame), and a Karaoke session by Ruby and Mr. Paul.
The event which is set to be done annually has been one of the most successful Comedy and Music show organized in Ghana this year with an over-full house last Friday.
There were also gifts from some of the sponsors including Postcepts and Condoms from Osons Chemist, Bottled water from Special Ice to the Patrons
“It was worth my money and more to be here tonight. Those musicians need a world class platform”, commented a patron after the show.
Another patron was overheard saying, “I never knew Kumasi has got such superb Comedians. This is the hardest I’ve ever laughed in my life.”.
Master P, one who frequents most comedy shows, put to words how he felt about the organization of the event. He said, “This has been a spectacular event, none other befitting a memorable Valentine’s night. Making your partner laugh, putting her in the mood with good music and
The patrons had more and more to say to how Successful the show. A look at most of them showed smiles, reluctance to leave and the reminiscing of the wonderful memories they’ve come to experience, clearly indicating they crave for more.
